Allometric growth of non-carcass components in crossed lambs Ciência Rural
Garcia,Iraides Ferreira Furusho; Alvarenga,Tharcilla Isabella Rodrigues Costa; Perez,Juan Ramon Olalquiaga; Almeida,Amelia Katiane de; Gallo,Sarita Bonagurio; Pereira,Idalmo Garcia; Alves,Nadja Gomes; Alvarenga,Flávio Augusto Pereira.
Males and females, including purebred Santa Inês lamb (SI) and crosses between Santa Inês dams and Texel (TxSI), Ile de France (IFxSI) and Bergamasca (BxSI) sires were feedlot finished and slaughtered at 15, 25, 35 and 45kg live weight. After slaughter, the following non- carcass components were weighed and calculated the allometric growth. Lungs of BxSI males grew faster than those of SI and TxSI. Trachea/esophagus in SI and TxSI males grew slower than IFxSI and BxSI. Kidneys BxSI males grew faster than TxSI and IFxSI. Livers of female TxSI lamb grew more rapidly than those of females in the other genetic groups. In both males and females, the rumen/reticulum grew faster in the TxSI group than SI and BxSI groups.

Characterization of body biometrics during growth of elite Santa Ines sheep R. Bras. Zootec.
Teixeira Neto,Milton Rezende; Cruz,Jurandir Ferreira da; Malhado,Carlos Henrique Mendes; Carneiro,Paulo Luiz Souza; Nunes,Rita de Cássia Santos; Souza,Luiz Miranda; Souza,Luiz Eduardo Barreto de.
The objective of this study was to characterize body biometrics of Santa Ines sheep during growth. Data from 4,038 animals, males and females, with ages from four to 36 months, from different herds participating in the National Agricultural Fair in Bahia from 2003 to 2008 were used. The characteristics evaluated were: body weight, average daily gain, body length, thoracic circumference, anterior height and posterior height. The mean values found were compared by the Student-Newman-Keuls test. All characteristics studied showed gradual change with aging, and it is worth-noting that age had positive effect on body weight, body length, thoracic circumference, anterior height and posterior height and negative effect on average daily gain. Average daily gain...

Productivity of japanese quails in relation to body weight at the end of the rearing phase Animal Sciences
Vieira Filho, Javer Alves; Garcia, Edivaldo Antônio; Molino, Andréa de Britto; Santos, Tiago Atônio dos; Almeida Paz, Ibiara Correia de Lima; Baldo, Grace Alessandra de Araújo.
Two experiments were conducted at different times with the objective of investigating how the body weight of Japanese quails at the end of the rearing period may alter the performance during the laying phase. In both experiments, the birds were distributed in five treatments according to their body weights, which were obtained at 42 and 35 days of age for the first and second experiments respectively, and the following categories were considered for said experiments: very light, light, average, heavy and very heavy. For both experiments, the treatments were distributed in a randomized block design, at eight repetitions per treatment for the first one and six for the second one, both at 18 birds per repetition. During the first experiment, sexual maturity,...
